About the terminal
The Talas Civil Air Terminal is the passenger terminal of Irad's only main airfield. It is run by the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Irad Special Economic Zone, which reports to the Ministry of Transport.
History
Talas airfield was built as a Soviet military aerodrome. From 1992 it became Talas Air Base, and between 1993 and 1998 its runway was lengthened to 3,400 m. Civil passengers were first handled in a hangar on the southern apron; the present two-storey terminal was opened in 2001 with Iradiya, founded in 1997, as its main user.
Since 2007 the airfield has been a joint civil–military airfield under arrangements between the ISEZ and the United States; the Joint Use Arrangement of 2016 sets the hours and procedures for civil flights. The base control tower controls all traffic on the airfield, and civil flights are coordinated with the air traffic services of the neighbouring countries.
